Enhanced Mechanical Joining between Carbon-Fiber- Reinforced Plastic and Steel Plates Using the Clearance-Filling Effect of Structural Adhesive

When carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and steel are joined using blind riveting bolting, fastener inclination occurs due to the clearance between hole. To this end, study investigated unavoidable occurrence of when joining metal composite materials mechanical fastening. The effect on lap shear strength (LSS) was quantitatively under various conditions. In riveting, breakage occurred mainly in rivet; LSS CFRP improved by approximately 33% filled with structural adhesive compared that unfilled state. a washer essential since it not only reduced force exerted bolt but also bending deformation plate where occurred. clearance-filling showed same as even without it. addition, 10% filling case bolting washers. Additionally, distribution for fastening segment calculated application an external force, results demonstrated hybrid-bonded during bonding is strong
